Minor League Baseball:
Jackie Robinson started his professional baseball career in a Negro league with the Kansas City Monarchs in early 1945. Robinson appeared in the Negro league All-Star game in 1945. On October 23, 1945 Robinson would be assigned with the Royals for the 1946 season in the Minor Leagues.
Robinson's Rookie Year:
In 1947 Jackie Robinson broke the "color barrier" in the Major Leagues, being the first African American to play for a professional Major League team. Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. On April 15, 1947, Robinson made his Major League debut at age 28 at Ebbets Field. He played as a first basemen in his first season. At the end of Robinson's rookie season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he had become the National League "Rookie of the Year" with 12 home runs, a league-leading 29 steals, and a .297 average. Jackie made the All-Star Team six times (1949-1954), he is a World Series Champion (1955), National League MVP (1949), MLB Rookie of the Year (1947), National League Batting Champion (1949), two-time National League Stolen Base Champion (1947, 1949) his jersey number 42 has been retired by all MLB teams, he is a member o the Major League All-Century Team and is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
